Renee Tajima-Peña is a filmmaker whose credits include Who Killed Vincent Chin? My America...or Honk if You Love Buddha, Calavera Highway, The New Americans: Mexico Story, and No Más Bebés. She is currently series producer of a multi-part series on the Asian American experience for PBS. Her films have screened at the Cannes, Sundance, and the Toronto International film festivals, and she was awarded the Guggenheim Fellowship, USA Broad Fellowship, Alpert Award in the Arts, a Peabody, a Dupont-Columbia, the IDA Award, and nominations for an Academy Award and Emmy Award. Tajima-Peña teaches social documentary at UCLA, where she is a professor and endowed chair of Asian American Studies, and the director of the Center for EthnoCommunications.  Prior to UCLA, she was a professor she was co-founder and graduate director of the UC Santa Cruz Graduate Program in Social Documentation.  Tajima-Peña never went to film school, but traces the origins as a filmmaker to her student activism. She has been deeply involved in the Asian American film movement, and helped found the Center for Asian American Media (formerly NAATA), A-Doc (Asian American Documentary Network), and the Nikkei Democracy Project.  She was the inaugural Filmmaker in Residence at IDA.
