Cathy R Fischer has worked in independent film and multi-platform projects for more than two decades. She is currently the director of The 3G Tattoo Project, (working title) a 30-minute film about grandchildren of Holocaust survivors (known as the Third Generation or 3Gs), who have chosen to tattoo their grandparents’ concentration camp numbers on their own bodies, bearing witness so others will “never forget”. After working at HBO in media relations and outreach, Cathy joined the Independent Television Service (ITVS) in 1997 as a publicist and soon after went on to pioneer ITVS Interactive. Cathy has produced film companion websites, created the first PBS Online Shorts Festival, and collaborated on multiple digital storytelling projects, educational games, alternate reality games, mapping projects, and web series. Her ITVS projects include After the Storm, The F-Word, Power Poetry, The Garbage Dreams Recycling Game, and The Lexicon of Sustainability. She recently served as Interactive Producer for Kartemquin’s Generation Food.

Cathy's awards and accolades include four Webbys, four SXSW awards, three selections for the Sundance New Forms Gallery, and two Emmy nominations in the New Approaches: Documentaries category for After the Storm and Deep Down: Virtual Mine. Cathy serves on the board of Not in Our Town and has been an advisor to AFI, BAVC, PBS Teachers, Sundance Shorts Festival, California Newsreel, and Lunafest.
