B RUBY RICH is a critic, curator, and editor who is also a professor in the Social Documentation MFA Program and the Film & Digital Media Department at UC Santa Cruz. She is the Editor in Chief (since 2013) of Film Quarterly, published by the University of California Press. Her books include New Queer Cinema: The Director's Cut (Duke, 2013) and Chick Flicks: Theories and Memories of the Feminist Film Movement (Duke, 1998). On radio, she has been a film commentator for "The World" and for the CBC's "Arts Today" programs. On television, she was on camera for "Independent View" for which she won a regional Emmy award. She has received the Distinguished Career Achievement Award from the Society for Cinema and Media Studies as well as Mellon and Rockefeller fellowships and numerous other awards. She was voted a member of the Academy in the notorious class of 2018 and is a longstanding member of SAG-AFTRA.
