Currently in production on documentary series, Breaking The Mold, Soraya will embark on a journey from Los Angeles to Alaska to meet a diverse group of female adventure seekers and explore how each woman overcomes stereotypes and boundaries in pursuit of her sport. The series follows British/Nigerian filmmaker Bisi B. as she rides her Harley motorcycle up the coast to discover what it's like to be on the road in today's America as a woman of color. http://www.breakingthemold.info/

Soraya is also a shooter on documentary Black Boys, a social justice film that will illuminate--in their words--what it means to be born a black male in America through an intimate, intergenerational exploration of identity, opportunity, voice and transformation at the intersection of sports, education and criminal justice. https://www.blackboysfilm.com

Soraya received her MFA in Directing & Cinematography at UCLA School of Theater, Film & Television, and studied at the Global Cinematography Institute under renowned ASC cinematographers. Photojournalism was Soraya’s early passion. She studied photography at the School of Visual Arts in New York, and photographed for La Nación, Chile’s national newspaper, while traveling in South America during study abroad as an undergraduate at Wesleyan University. Soraya is a founding member of the International Collective of Female Cinematographers (ICFC). She is also a Professor in Film, where she enjoys imparting her knowledge on the next generation of visual storytellers, and in particular nurturing underrepresented voices.
