David Vaisbord is the Chair of DOC BC, on the National Executive of the Documentary Organization of Canada (DOC) and the board of Hot Docs.  He's here to share thoughts on how to strengthen documentary film communities across North America and to meet doc filmmakers and educators from all disciplines interested in visiting Vancouver to conduct masterclasses for DOC members.

Filmmaker, educator, activist David Vaisbord, has made several award winning documentaries for television including  Drawing Out the Demons: a film about the artist Attila Richard Lukacs, Mischa, Britannia Beach, Dark Pines, and cult classic Juicy Danger Meets Burning Man.  While at the Emily Carr University of Art+Design he wrote his masters thesis on the historical relationship between Canadian documentary practice and social justice in Canada.

Vaisbord is in post production on a 10-year long-form feature doc (working) titled:  The Little Mountain Story. The documentary follows two blind senior citizens and the community who fought the destruction of their public housing project.  POV Magazine’s feature story provides background while the project's evolution is covered on the web at: www.littlemountainproject.comVaisbord is currently looking for completion funding.
