Not Your Grandmother's Historical Doc
Historical documentaries, long seen as fodder for classroom instruction and serious cinefiles, are having a moment. Recent films have landed at just the right time, providing historical context - and motivation - for solving today’s most pressing social issues. This panel of filmmakers and impact producers will discuss the challenges and successes of campaigns that centered on a variety of issues as examined through historical stories about sexual assault and the control of women's bodies, the battle to halt the AIDS epidemic, the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the Black Panther Party, and Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Join us to hear lessons related to issue framing, promotional strategies and methods for creating impact that will demonstrate that historical documentaries can reach, inspire and engage diverse audiences beyond the classroom and niche film circles.
