As Film Quarterly celebrates its 60th anniversary, Editor B. Ruby Rich (newly elected to the Academy’s Doc Branch) gathers together major figures to think about documentary and consider the urgent issues facing the form in a time of civic collapse. Drawing on a range of models from Brazil to Australia, the panelists also consider what might be the appropriate forms, aesthetics and structures to carry forward the lives, stories, histories and subjectivities of folks living in a troubled America. The role of criticism has never been more important.
