While nonfiction storytelling has long enjoyed a vibrant place in the media ecosystem, the digital era has brought rapid change. Documentary production, distribution and audience consumption have changed radically over the past few decades. And yet, despite new opportunities for nonfiction storytellers and audiences, particular challenges are persistent, including diversity and career sustainability. This State of the U.S. Documentary Field trend study, produced by the Center for Media & Social Impact, in association with IDA, s the only study of its kind in the nonfiction storytelling industry to track the experiences, trends and perspectives of documentary film professionals.
