As audience engagement strategies and impact campaigns have become increasingly sophisticated, impact producers have filled a crucial role as multifaceted strategists working alongside film teams to ensure documentaries are seen and used effectively. Impact producers balance the worlds of organizing, marketing, distribution and political strategy. While a small number secure full-time employment within production companies and boutique impact firms, the bulk of the work is as freelance contractors, making them vulnerable to the same sustainability concerns as independent filmmakers. This panel will discuss the challenges and opportunities for career sustainability within the field of documentary impact.
