Directed by Albert Maysles, David Maysles, and Charlotte Zwerin, this 35mm print was restored by the Academy Film Archive and The Film Foundation, with funding provided by the George Lucas Family Foundation. Film sources for the restoration came from the  Maysles’ collection at the Academy Film Archive, and included the original 16mm camera negative, first generation picture elements, and 35mm magnetic sound masters.  Restoration was done at Roundabout Entertainment and Audio Mechanics, with additional audio work by DJ Audio and Simon Daniel Sound.

Salesman follows four door-to-door Bible salesmen as they walk the line between hype and despair. First making calls in and around Boston, where the company is based, then in Chicago at a sales conference, and finally in the promising new "territory" of Miami and vicinity. Their mission is simple: to convince people to buy what one of them calls "still the best seller in the world." But although their customers are mostly middle, working-class Catholics recommended by the local church, the Bible is a hard sell…"
