Jessica Q. Chen is an Emmy award-winning Chinese American filmmaker and senior video producer at the Los Angeles Times. Her first feature-length documentary "Surf Nation" follows the beginnings of surf culture through the Chinese national surf team that formed after surfing became an Olympic sport, and two young surfers seeking more for their lives. The film premiered at the 2022 Mountainfilm festival. She was an associate producer for National Geographic’s “Hell on Earth: The Fall of Syria and the Rise of ISIS,” which premiered at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival. She has a master's from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, and speaks Mandarin and basic Arabic.
