I am a lecturer at UCL IOE, University of London. My recent work has focused on video games, science fiction and horror - so I've been writing about the idea of impairment as threat, the performance and measurement of ability, and the link between ability and status. At the moment I am part of a collaborative project called Disability and Community (D4D) funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. We are researching aspects of disability and resistance, play, community and disenfranchisement. During 2017-18 I'm working with an artist (Esther Fox) and a robot scientist (Praminda Caleb-Solly) to explore the various ways that our experiences of disability might shape our relationships with science fictions, and the potential for science fictions to offer alternative ways to talk about ability, disability, technology and mainstream culture.
