This session begins with a 20-minute lecture from science communication scholar Amy C. Chambers (Newcastle University) on real-world science and contemporary near-future science fiction from screen and page. The talk will also give a brief introduction to the research and project that Amy is currently working on and explain why we want to work with a community like EasterCon. We would then like to open the discussion to the floor and explore with the audience broader issues of how the science fiction community interprets and navigates contemporary scientific developments and issues to imagine alternative futures.
