Galileo wrote that the universe is an open book, but that to understand it we need to learn the language it's written in, which is mathematics. Is mathematics a language? What is the language of mathematics? How do mathematicians use language? Dr Nicholas Jackson provides some partial answers to these questions, bringing in things like algebra, category theory, Feynman diagrams and a bit of knot theory along the way.
