The term spoons was coined by Christine Miserandino in 2003 in her essay "The Spoon Theory". In it, spoons represent units of energy that must be rationed to avoid running out which may result in the inability to do anything. The theory states that it is possible to exceed one's daily limit, but that doing so means borrowing from the future which may result in not having enough spoons the next day.

In this session panelists living with chronic conditions talk about their health and the less serious side of them. It also explores the way that logistical planning takes on a whole new meaning when travelling – where are the toilets?  Where is the best place to sit on a train?  What are the back-up options?  And above all, what’s the best way to make all of this a bit more fun?  Panellists answer awkward questions and take a bit of the seriousness and fear away from saying the wrong thing so the audience can learn in a relaxed and entertaining way.
