H.G. Well's Time Machine and C.S. Lewis's wardrobe are classic examples of travel in sf and fantasy. SF also includes spaceships and interdimensional travel while fantasy includes a wide range of portals. But really, is a time machine very different to a wardrobe? How do rabbit holes and spaceships vary when being written and when being read? Does the reader automatically react to sf and fantasy travel stories differently because of the expectations of genre or are the methods not interchangeable?
