Regenerating soil health is essential for food security and climate change mitigation. Healthy living soils, rich with beneficial micro-organisms, sequester carbon, promote natural fertility without chemical inputs, resist disease pathogens and hold water. Most modern agricultural practices deplete soil quality over time.Regenerative farming practices increase agricultural productivity, enhance the nutritional quality of foods, improve resilience to droughts and floods, while mitigating climate change and generating greater profits. Barriers and solutions to shifting from an input-intensive paradigm to a knowledge-intensive paradigm in agriculture will be discussed.
