Mir Abolfazl Mostafavi, is professor at the Department of geomatics sciences, Laval university. He is a memeber of the Centre for Research in Geomatics (www.crg.ulaval.ca) and has led the center for 6 years (2010-2016). He leads Currently the CONVREGENCE Network (www.convergence.ulaval.ca) which facilitates the collaboration and the partnership among academia, industry and government sectors to stimulate research and innovation activities in geospatial scienecs and to accelerate knowledge transfer to potential users. His reserach interests are mainly focused on the dynamic GIS, spatial data modeling and representation, geosimulation, spatial ontologies and semantic,  mobile geospatial virtual and augmented reality and  geosensor networks for smart envirenments.  Dr. Mostafavi has been an active meembre of GEOIDE (Canadian Network of Centers of Excellence) for more than 10 years. He is a membre of the Centre for Interdiciplinary reserach in rehabilitation and sotial integration where he conducts innovative reserach on the developpemnet of geostaial assitive technologies for pepole with motor disabilities (http://mobilisig.scg.ulaval.ca/).  Currenlty, he leads an international working group on Semantic Interoperability and Ontology for Geospatial Information within the International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ICWG II/IV).
He acts as Sponsor chair of GIScience for the 2016 edition.
