30 years ago, a small group of engineers came together to work on the then difficult problem of interoperable technology, systems and data. These visionaries formed the Open Geospatial Consortium which has helped the world figure out how to collect, process, and share geospatial data over the internet and across a wide variety of technology systems. Today, with the proliferation of technology types, sensors and a growing realisation that better data, better processes to fuse data, and the ability to work together across borders of all kinds is leading the Open Geospatial Consortium to transform and respond to the many of the world’s critical data challenges. This session will outline the Open Geospatial’ Consortium past and proposed evolution to better position its members to play a leadership role within the global digital and data movements.
