The intersection of location technologies with Virtual Reality and Augmented reality are rapidly transforming key sectors of the Canadian economy including transportation, the resource sector, the digital and interactive media sector and transforming how governments deliver public and private services.

Alberta has the largest geomatics sector in Canada which has been driven by the oil and gas sector; however, new applications of location technologies and developments are rapidly evolving.Key economic sectors are leveraging spatial information for improving efficiency and productivity. Amina Deiab will discuss the economic impact of Alberta’s geospatial industry and explore key trends and growth areas for GIS in Alberta beyond the resource sector.
