Steve Taylor

Research Engineer
University of Southampton
Participates in 1 Session

Dr Steve Taylor is a senior research engineer at the University of Southampton, UK. He received his PhD in Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) from the University of Greenwich in 1997 and has published over 40 academic papers. His research interests include computational governance & regulation and has recently investigated an ISO27005-based cybersecurity risk management approach applied to regulatory compliance, focusing on the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)  [Taylor 2021]. He is currently PI on two relevant European-funded (H2020) projects. in H2020 ProTego, he is focusing on dynamic cyber security risk modelling in the healthcare sector, and in H2020 FogProtect he is focusing on risk modelling for end-to-end protection of data from the fog to the cloud. He has also made significant contributions to a "Social Data Foundation" concept aiming to provide a Trusted Research Environment for linking health and social care data to enable research into optimising joined up care pathways from within the local community and the medical sectors, focusing on architectural patterns for data governance. This work has led to an influential white paper [Boniface et al 2020] and a journal publication currently in press [Boniface et al 2022]. He is currently extending the risk management approach to GDPR in the context of joined up care pathways in the Social Data Foundation via the investigation into the risk of privacy breaches due to potential re-identification of persons when pseudonymised datasets are linked. He is a member of the NESSI (Networked European Software and Services Initiative) Steering Committee and is also a board member of the Fed4FIRE+ federation of experimentation testbeds for the Future Internet (funded by the EC as a large-scale integrated project).
