This panel will focus on national developments in data protection law beyond the European Union, analyzing which core values and principles underpin different approaches to privacy and data protection legislation. What are the big enforcement cases or actions that have shaped various national or state-level approaches? Which current priorities of data protection authorities will influence national strategy in the coming years? Through engaging in a discussion of the evolution of data protection laws world-wide, the panel will also seek  to uncover whether there is a trend towards convergence of values, and whether some sort of ‘global standard’ is beginning to emerge.
