Affiliated to the Department of Engineering and Information Technology of the Bern University of Applied Sciences, Switzerland. For over 30 years he developed software in languages ranging from Assembler to Java, from industrial control to Web / Database applications. In recent years his activity field was related to management of medical data, especially its secure and privacy preserving reuse for research and quality assessment. In numerous papers he has treated the technical, social and ethical aspects of this process. He has organized a special session "Smart Medical Devices - from to clinical practice" at the BIOSTEC conference. Recently he wrote a chapter on medical data reuse for the book "Pervasive Computing: Next Generation Platforms for Intelligent Data Collection", published at Elsevier. His non-IT specialty is languages and cultures.
