This is the first session of the day long workshop exploring the Internet of Things (IoT) in the context of smart cities. IoT is a fundamental enabler for smart cities. Wireless sensors play an increasing role in environmental monitoring, waste management, security and transportation. Energy efficiencies are closely monitored and controlled through smart metering, sensors and other smart grid innovations. IoT enables public administrations to monitor and address detected problems in real time. In this context, this morning's panel will provide an overview of the some of the international initiatives in this domain followed by presentations and discussion of reference models from some current IoT enabled smart cities.

Organised by SynchroniCity and Open & Agile Smart Cities (OASC).
