Svetoslav Mihaylov is a Policy Officer in Unit H2– Smart Mobility & Living at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology. Among his areas of responsibility are Smart Cities and their interoperability and standards, smart appliances within the smart home, smart energy, sustainability of data centres, etc. 

The unit is charged with developing policy around ICT contributions to smart cities, and to delivering triple-bottom-line sustainability in response to societal challenges in resource efficiency, climate, transport and energy. It also has R&D activities on ICT and sustainability including energy-efficient buildings and cities (including sustainable data centres), smart electricity grids, low-carbon transport and mobility, and efficient water and waste management.

In the period 1999-2013, Svetoslav Mihaylov held different positions at the largest mobile/fixed telecom operator in Belgium Proximus (Belgacom Mobile SA / Belgacom SA) and was responsible for introducing new technologies, creating network solutions, defining the strategy and roadmap, etc.

Prior to this he worked on a contract for the European Commission’s DG XIII Telecommunications – the predecessor of the current DG CONNECT – and several other organizations/companies.

He has an MSc in Telecommunications from Technical University of Sofia (plus Technical University of Denmark), postgraduate diploma in Wireless Telecommunications from Oxford University and postgraduate credit in Political and Economic Systems from Georgetown University.
