Santos Merino

Senior Researcher. Head of Sensors Research Area in the Surface Chemistry and Nanotechnologies Unit
IK4-TEKNIKER
Participates in 1 Session

PhD in Solid State Physics in 1997. Since 2001, he was Head of the Micro and Nanofabrication Unit in IK4-Tekniker and since 2017 he is Head of the Sensors Research Area in the Surface Chemistry and Nanotechnologies Unit. He has worked on different fields such as in-vitro diagnostic transduction systems based on surface plasmon resonance and localized surface Plasmon resonance, chronoamperometry detection or DNA manipulation in nanofluidic biochips. He has worked on application of these technologies for its use in clinica (DNA and proteins detection in blood) or agro-food use-cases (identification of allergens, bacteria or pesticides) He has also studied the interaction of cells and surfaces and its differentiation under physical and biochemical cues.  He is also involved in educational activities giving lectures in the Nanoscience and Nanotechnolgy master as well as in the Materials Science master leaded by the Basque Country University. He is author of more than 50 papers and 5 patents applications. He has leaded many research projects (industrial and oriented fundamental research) and he has participated in FP5, FP6, FP7 and H2020 projects. He is the coordinator of the FP7 project NEURIMP (www.neurimp.eu-). He is participating in Scientific Committees of the Spanish Network in Nanolithography (www.unizar.es/nanolito/) or prestigious international workshops such as Micro and Nanoengineering (MNE).
