IoT 4 SDGs

When:
4:30 PM, Wednesday 1 Sep 2021 (1 hour)
How:
The IoT has the potential to address some of the most acute human, economic and environmental needs. It can also directly contribute to achieving the targets in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). At the 7th IoT Week, the IoT research and industry community, together with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and other stakeholders signed the International Declaration on the Internet of Things for Sustainable Development, in which they expressed their support for researching, developing and leveraging IoT technologies for sustainable development and for building a brighter future for our planet and its inhabitants. Four years later, we take the opportunity to reflect upon the current state of affairs and discuss how the IoT is applied today in sectors such as smart cities and biodiversity. The session examines how IoT and research can contribute to the SDGs and to the European Green Deal. Furthermore, it introduces the Impact Assessment Methodology for SDG compliance (IAM4SDG) – a practical self-assessment tool that can be used by private and public stakeholders as well as research projects and evaluators, wishing to analyse their impact on the SDGs.
