Prof.Denis Dowling has over30 years’ experience in working in all aspects of materials science. He directs the Science Foundation Ireland funded I-Form Advanced ManufacturingCentre, which is headquartered at University College Dublin (UCD). This Centre currently had nearly 60PhD / Post-doc researchers along with a 10-member operations team. The research focus is on materials processing (particularly additive manufacturing), as well as the integration of digital technologies into the manufacturing environment. Prof. Dowling’sown research incorporates the related areas of additive manufacturing and surface engineering. He has licensed technology to 7 companies and has published200 papers in peer-reviewed journals, along with15 book chapters and 11 patents. He was the recipient of the2012 UCD Innovation Award, as well as the Institute of Materials Finishing gold medal in 2013 (only its 15th recipient since 1925). Prior to taking up an academic position, Prof. Dowling worked with Enterprise Ireland the state industrial development agency.
