Next Generation IoT: Emerging Technologies1. Next-Generation IoT, Research and Cross-Atlantic Cooperation

The evolution of the IoT into the Next-generation IoT will be marked by a series of technological advances which includes contextually aware and distributed intelligence, federated services and microservices, integration of DLTs and smart contracts, and tactile and AR interfaces among others. It is typified by the convergence between the cloud and Edge along the human-cloud computing continuum and is underpinned by the functionalities afforded by 5G networks.

In this session, the future European roadmap for research and innovation, a result of aligned input from different tasks, including the outcomes of stakeholder engagements, surveys and workshops will be presented to provide an overview of the key themes, topics and trends facing the future of IoT. The session will look towards the main levers and drivers of adoption and emerging technology trends and the key gaps remaining for scaling industrial investment.

Join in on the discussion and provide your own opinion on key trends and gaps affecting the widescale adoption of the intelligent and decentralised near and far edge.

The NGIoT Initiative (www.ngiot.eu) is a community of technology developers that are delivering and testing across multiple domains the building blocks of the next-gen IoT systems from new architectures, interfaces, and hardware accelerators to new agents of trust and interoperability. The group of projects is an investment totalling over €48m from the European Union to ensuring the strength of the emerging edge technologies in Europe as a pillar of the digital transition over the coming decade.
