Sara Sighinolfi works as project officer in the Justice, Digital and Migration Unit of the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA). Her areas of expertise with respect to the FRA’s work include research and analysis on privacy and data protection, also linked to asylum and migration, online content moderation and new technologies. In the area of Asylum and Migration, she has been responsible for following the developments in the context of the EU large-scale databases for migration and security from a fundamental rights perspective. In her previous capacities, she managed the FRA’s Fundamental Rights Conference 2014 "Fundamental rights and migration to the EU". She has closely followed the EU human rights and fundamental rights agenda in the EU, working as the European Parliament Liaison officer between 2011-2018. Prior to joining the FRA, she worked for the European Commission (DG Development and Cooperation, European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights), the European Parliament (Sub-Committee on Human Rights) and for a Brussels-based NGO. Furthermore, she worked as Human Rights Specialist for the United Nations Development Programme in Madagascar. She is a Political Scientist by education with an LLM in International Human Rights Law.
