Jupiter’s moon Europa is only slightly smaller than Earth’s moon but is dramatically different: It has a crust of water ice, has almost no craters, and is thought to have a subsurface ocean. Dr. Melora Larson of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory plays a key role in planning Europa Clipper, NASA’s upcoming mission to this exotic moon. She’ll describe the spacecraft, why (in accordance with the film 2010) it will not attempt a landing, and the science Europa Clipper may reveal when it arrives at its destination sometime in the next decade.
