I am a long-time sf fan and a professor at McGill University. I am also a world-wide expert on the societal impacts of mapping technology, which these days can span OpenStreetMap, Uber, and Pokemon Go. I am the principle researcher of a multi-million dollar grant investigating how city-citizen interactions are shifting as a result of mapping technologies, open government data, civic technology, citizen science and crowdsourcing. I am particularly interested in how non-experts can use even the most sophisticated information and communications technologies, which has led me to on-going collaborative work with NASA on how the public can run their own climate models.
