Before A Chorus Line, before Hamilton, a young Choreographer set out to redefine the Broadway musical. Along with his collaborators, Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim and Arthur Laurents; Jerome Robbins embarked on a theatrical journey which exploded the conventional musical as it was known. In 1957 a group of young dancers, were hired and thrust front and center as principal actor/singer/ dancers. They were given characters with names and identities along with a back story. They had to learn the craft of acting and singing solos. We have all heard the stories of the making of the show, but we know little of the people who were there, how they were a part of making history and how it changed their lives and careers forever. This is their story, told with heart and passion; West Side Story: the story.
