Broadway vet has performed in 5 Tony Award winning musicals. Disney's The Lion King as Shenzi, Avenue Q as Gary Coleman and The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess with Audra McDonald and Norm Lewis. In her fourth show, After Midnight, the Associated Press said “Carmen Ruby Floyd never sings a word in her song (Creole Love Call), but her eyes and heavenly voice will make you melt”. Last seen on Broadway Ms. Floyd stepped into the iconic role of Matron ""Mama"" Morton in the long running musical Chicago, making it her fifth Broadway show. Making her off Broadway debut as Tiny Lee in Langston's Little Ham (AMAS Musical Theater) critic Bruce Weber said of her performance “The swagger and big voice of Carmen Ruby Floyd provide… a shot of star quality and star charisma…”. Other off Broadway mentions include Second Stages Crowns as Yolanda, Cabin in the Sky (Encores) and her Carnegie Hall debut in historic Showboat. Proudly she has sung several times, both on Broadway and in private performances for President and Mrs. Obama, and former President Bill Clinton. Carmen now sings around the world for star and friend Vanessa Williams. Along with her stage work, Ms. Floyd has guest starred in several TV shows, seen in many commercials and heard in a slew of voice overs. Married to fellow Broadway and Film Actor, J. Bernard Calloway (currently starring in ""VH1's The Breaks"") they enjoy raising their voices for various charities as well as traveling the globe.
