Using adaptation theory and literary analysis, this panel aims to provide an academic deconstruction of the development of Hades in Anaïs Mitchell's Hadestown. Through discussions surrounding poetry, revolution, industry, death, and the political implications of the wall, this panel will show how it's possible for Hades to be a man, a king, and a god, all while avoiding satanic and devilish stereotypes.
