We are living in a new Golden Age of playwrighting, filled with diverse voices telling new stories in new ways. The Outer Critics Circle has a track record of identifying and celebrating the very best of those writers with the John Gassner Playwriting Award, which recognizes American playwrights at the start of their careers. Richard Ridge, host of the TV series Backstage with Richard Ridge and an OCC board member, will discuss their work with recent Gassner honorees Jocelyn Bioh (2017-2018 winner for School Girls; Or, the African Mean Girls Play), Donja R. Love (2018-2019 finalist for Sugar in Our Wounds), Ming Peiffer (2018-2019 finalist for Usual Girls), and Bess Wohl (2016-2017 winner for Small Mouth Sounds).
