At a time when the traditional record business is in flux, performers can still seize the moment to produce recordings that build careers, attract attention, create merchandise, and (not least) make art. In this session, Tony-nominee Melissa Errico, who's had two recent rave-reviewed recordings, will talk about both the technical business of making demos, selecting songs, and hiring musicians, and about the possibilities for self-expression and discovery in an efficiently organized studio session. She will also discuss how she's maintained a steady stream of albums, most notably last year's Sondheim Sublime (called “the best all-Sondheim album ever recorded” by The Wall Street Journal) and her recently released Legrand Affair (Deluxe Edition), produced by the iconic Phil Ramone and featuring arrangements conducted by her Oscar-winning mentor Michel Legrand.
