Jaclyn Backhaus is a playwright, arts facilitator, and Fresh Ground Pepper co-founder from Phoenix, Arizona. Her stage works include: India Pale Ale (Manhattan Theatre Club, Horton Foote Prize winner for Promising New American Play), Men on Boat (NYT Critics’ Pick, Clubbed Thumb/Playwrights Horizons, Kilroys List 2015, published by Dramatists Play Service), Folk Wandering (Pipeline Theatre Company), You on the Moors Now (Theater Reconstruction Ensemble, The Hypocrites in Chicago, published by DPS), and People Doing Math Live! (Under The Radar Festival's INCOMING! Series). She was the 2016 Tow Foundation Playwright-in-Residence at Clubbed Thumb and she is currently in residence at Lincoln Center. She lives in Queens with her husband, director Andrew Scoville and their toddler, Ernie. BFA: NYU.
