Linda Armstrong has been a theatre critic with the New York Amsterdam News for 38 years, she begun in 1985. Through the years she has covered Broadway, Off-Broadway, Off-Off Broadway and a great deal of Black Theatre companies. She is on the Board of Directors for AUDELCO, and on its nominating committee. AUDELCO recognizes excellence in Black Theatre. She has been a member of the Outer Critic Circle, the American Theatre Critics Association and is a member of Drama Desk and on its nominating committee. Ms. Armstrong is on the Board of Directors of Drama Desk. In 2023 she Broadway Podcast Network will launch her show “Strictly Theatre with Linda Armstrong.” Through the years Ms. Armstrong’s reviews have been seen in Playbill Online, Our Time Press, in which for 10 years she had a theatre column, On The Aisle. Ms. Armstrong was a feature writer for one year for Show Business Weekly Newspaper and during that time did countless interviews with industry insiders, playwright, directors, producers and helped readers to see this industry from their prospective. Ms. Armstrong did feature stories for Headliner Magazine, a theatre publication of Radio City. She has written for Theatre Week Magazine. She also does feature stories for the Network Journal Magazine. She writes theatre pieces for the Harlem News Groups paper—Harlem News, Brooklyn News, Queens News and Bronx News, including a special annual “Blacks On Broadway” issue. Through the years Ms. Armstrong has interviewed numerous celebrities, playwrights, directors and producers. She has always enjoyed covering theatre, especially making sure to cover as much Black Theatre as she can. An archive of all of her reviews for the New York Amsterdam News can be found in the Lincoln Center Performing Arts Library. Ms. Armstrong participated in the 2nd Annual BroadwayCon as part of the “Everyone’s A Critic” panel in 2017. Ms. Armstrong has a double BA from Hunter College with a major in Communications (Journalism) and a major in English, creative writing, with a Philosophy minor.
