With East West Players and Pan Asian Rep, founded respectively in 1965 and 1977, Asian (American) theatre artists have been at the forefront of establishing theatres of color. While the number of nonprofit theatres of color are increasing, opportunities for Asian-American artists in commercial theatre pale in comparison. In this panel, Asian and Asian-American theatre artists and administrators discuss what it will take to bridge the representation gap between nonprofit and commercial theatre.
