From Broadway to Babies and Back Again: How the Broadway Baby Mamas juggle life onstage and off

Business of Theatre
11:15 AM, Sunday 13 Jan 2019 (1 hour)
New York Hilton Midtown - 430 - PROJECTOR - Gramercy Room
There was a time in our business where the choice was either continue acting and don't have children, or have children and quit the business...that it was impossible to do both. We find ourselves in a time now, where more and more of us are continuing on with our careers, in addition to having a family, working really hard to have as much of it as we can. The Broadway Baby Mamas was founded by Cara Cooper and Jessica Rush as they started their motherhood journey while performing on Broadway. The group is for any mother in the metro NYC area who is currently pursuing a career in theatre, be it as an actor, musician, stagehand, composer, dresser, agent, the list goes on. As of today, we have over 250 members. Our experiences on this journey are very unique, but what we have in common is that we all are just women trying to continue to contribute to the world with our art, while simultaneously nurturing the next generation; finding a balance between the parent and theatrical world. Having a career on Broadway is an Olympic sport, and it's important to have a community that lifts you up and supports you. Join Cara, Jessica and a few of their fellow mamas, from stagehand to Tony Award winner, as we get real about the life of Broadway's working mom.
