Dr. Keao NeSmith (University of Hawai‘i, Mānoa) translates modern classic books into Hawaiian, an endangered language. In addition to Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, he has also translated The Hobbit, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Through the Looking Glass, and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Dr. NeSmith’s PhD is in Applied Linguistics from the University of Waikato, New Zealand, and has taught Hawaiian and Tahitian languages, Hawaiian studies, and endangered language revitalization.
