The Magi, Pagans, Vodousists, Celtic Druids, Wiccans, and many other groups have long had associations with curious lingual expressions and the mysterious power behind them. In this lecture, we will examine the linguistic roots of specific incantations, what it takes to produce magic beyond the spells, and the cultural diaspora of magical language in history. Participants will be able to engage in theorizing and reflection on how they encounter magical words in the Harry Potter Universe and in the muggle world.
