Much has been discussed and written about the importance of mothers and mother figures in the Harry Potter books. But what about the fathers? J.K. Rowling said in a 2005 interview with Time Magazine, that villains were the result of "a litany of bad fathers. That's where evil seems to flourish, in places where people didn't get good fathering. This lecture will explore the impact - both good and bad - of some of the major fathers and father figures in the series. At the end of this lecture there will be a discussion on how things might have been different had some of the characters had more loving fathers, as well as what we think Harry, Ron, Draco, and others are like as fathers today.
