In this panel, academics within film studies, professionals in the field of film production and adaptation, and a few die-hard fans, will use the Harry Potter films as a model to discuss the hurdles in adapting a popular work to the screen. Topics such as directors, script writing, development, author involvement, fan expectation, budget, time, and locations will all be considered to better illustrate the reasons why “the book is always better” may or may not be true, why beloved moments can be lost well before the cutting room floor, and what those gaps do to the original story.
