The Harry Potter stories are mostly acted out at Hogwarts, among students who are away from their families. That's the center of the series. Yet all around the edges are the families that the students - and the adults - come from. As the story unfolds over the seven novels, we learn about many of these families. What were the family dynamics that worked on the main characters? Why are there so many bad or dysfunctional families on this list? What family dynamics are our characters likely to bring in to their new families? What can we learn about how families work - or don't work - from the Harry Potter novels?
