Formal Programming
When:
4:00 PM, Saturday 16 Jul 2011 EDT (50 minutes)
Where:
Loews Royal Pacific Resort - South China Sea
This session explores the work of Henry Jenkins on the creative power of fans and the value of their addition to many aspects of popular culture. Through his lectures and writings on transmedia storytelling, Jenkins has legitimized many aspects of fandom and celebrated the incredible talents of fans who use the canon as a springboard for their own work. The similarities and sometime conflicts between vehicles conceived and executed by corporate conglomerates behind the “franchise,” and those that are fan-driven and lead to a more participatory experience will be examined.
