Medicine, Magic and Law: Muggle History and the Potter Universe

Where:
Potions, charms, wands, herbology… familiar ideas to all of us. But, these ideas are not simply flights of fictional fancy – many of them are based in muggle history. The scream of the mandrake was thought dangerous in the Middle Ages. Magistrates in the 17th century used wands to help point out the guilty. Sailors believed that charms would aid their course. Come find out about some of the ways in which the magic of the Potter Universe was adapted from the history of medicine and law.
