Shakespeare VS. Sondheim: The Broadway Battle

Theme:
PP3
What:
Roundtable
When:
9:00 AM, Saturday 2 Aug 2014 EDT (40 minutes)
In the world of Broadway and the West End, people are often drawn to the show-stopping songs and exquisite dances of the musical. Even if a person is not a “hardcore” theatre fan, many know the lyrics to songs from shows such as Wicked, West Side Story, and Evita. However, most people aren’t very familiar with plays past The Crucible or Equus. In this roundtable discussion, we intend to discuss the accessibility of a play versus a musical, the disparity between the two genres, and why such a battle exists in the first place. In case things get a little too heated, we have a few sing-alongs planned as well!
