In what was considered a controversial move by many, JK Rowling “outed” Albus Dumbledore as a gay man in October of 2007 during her reading of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows at Carnegie Hall. Reactions from the public met a wide range of emotion, but overall, it appeared that many people were pleased that Rowling had made the choice to divulge yet another piece of canon information to the ever-hungry fans. The decision to disclose this information in the way that she did, however, did sparked a debate that still rages among fans today. Should Rowling have revealed the beloved professor’s sexuality within the seven books of the series or was what she did enough? The panelist will continue this debate and invite those in attendance to join in on the discussion as well.
